British neoconservatism

Maurice Cowling, a British historian and Conservative, who founded the famous Salisbury Group of conservative thinkers, describes the real purpose of British neoconservatism succinctly here.

In his published ‘Conservative Essays’ he baldly states:

“If there is a class war—and there is—it is important that it should be handled with subtlety and skill…. it is not freedom that Conservatives want; what they want is the sort of freedom that will maintain existing inequalities or restore lost ones.”

I think they’ve let the cat out of the bag with that one.
